Ubuntu 6.06, AMD64-3000, 512MB, SATA RAID1

Following the information in "The Official Ubuntu Book", pp 240, I tried to
install the following using QEMU, a Windows emulator: (Command $qemu boot -d
cdrom /dev/cdrom -hda hd.img)

OS Result
Windows 95 Fatal Error
Windows 98 "
Windows 98SE "
Windows ME "
Windows XP Home Loads but fails to read CD verifying a license.

The complete Fatal Error reads:

CDROM boot failure code : 0004
Boot from CD-Rom failed
FATAL: Could not read the boot disk

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to install the emulation?

Have you tried VMware? I use it in Windows XP to emulate Ubuntu and a

bunch of other stuff. I have it in Ubuntu too, but Microsoft apparently
won't let them make a virtual Windows machine. My use was to boot Ubuntu
and use the Windows emulator for a few Windows only programs but since
it won't work I have to boot back and forth. My Ubuntu see the NTFS
files on the other drive but so far I can't open them, even read only,
so i am a bit frustrated at this point. Burning to a CD and then reading
it into Ubuntu seems a bit over the top.

I got win98 installed in qemu, but i didn't use boot from cd.
i did use a boot floopy.

and by the way, qemu is not a windows emulator
it is a machine emulator that can emulate much more than pc's

Cheers
